El Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria impartirá este año varios talleres socio-deportivos y formativos del Programa Deport Vida, que forman parte del proyecto social para menores ‘#Up2U: Depende de ti’, una iniciativa pionera y novedosa impulsada por la magistrada del Juzgado de Menores Número 1 de Las Palmas, Reyes Martel, y que pretende canalizar elementos de ayuda y apoyo social y educativo para los menores del Archipiélago con problemas de conducta o en riesgo de exclusión social, con el fin de que se integren de manera productiva en la sociedad.
El club colabora con la impartición de talleres de baloncesto-playa, surf y body board a treinta menores que en la actualidad están sujetos a medidas judiciales
Estos talleres, que se han presentado hoy a los jóvenes que van a recibirlos y que se llevarán a cabo gracias a un acuerdo de colaboración con la Consejería de Empleo, Políticas Sociales y Vivienda, acogerán a un total de treinta menores sujetos a medidas judiciales y derivados por la Dirección General de Protección de la Infancia y la Familia del Gobierno canario. El objetivo es fomentar, entre este colectivo de jóvenes, hábitos saludables asociados a los valores del deporte.
Serán talleres de baloncesto-playa de dos sesiones semanales, así como un taller de surf y otro de body board de una sesión semanal, en donde los monitores del Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria les ofrecerán formación técnica y deportiva a los menores y les inculcarán los valores asociados al deporte como el respeto y la disciplina, o la importancia del trabajo en equipo.
El proyecto ‘#Up2U’ aspira a ser el eje que articule una red de colaboración entre el Gobierno, instituciones académicas y deportivas, fundaciones y el propio poder judicial, para crear instrumentos eficaces de ayuda y planes de intervención destinados a los menores en situación de exclusión social, y a su entorno familiar. Es un proyecto conjunto que implica a empresas y fundaciones en la educación en valores de los jóvenes a través del deporte, así como con un programa integral de becas formativas que posibiliten la incorporación de los menores al mercado laboral; y del desarrollo de talleres de diversas disciplinas formativas y sociales.

The basketball team “Gran Canaria” will give social, sport and educational workshops for the program “Deport Vida” this year. These workshops will be part of the social project for young people “UP2U: Depende de tí” promoted by the Magistrate of Juvenile Court of Las Palmas, Reyes Martel, to direct elements of assistance and social support for the young people of the archipelago with behavioral problems or at risk of social exclusion, and with the purpose of make them integrate on a productive way in society.
The basketball team collaborates with basketball and beach workshops and also surf and body board for thirty minors who currently are subjected to judicial actions.
These workshops will receive thirty minors subjected by judicial actions and from the Directorate of Infancy Protection and the Family of the Canary Government. The workshops will be carried out thank to a collaboration agreement with the Department of Employment, Social Policies and Housing. Today, the workshops have already been introduced to the young people, who are going to participate. The aim is to promote health habits related to sport values between young people.
There are two sessions a week of workshops of basketball and beach, and there is one session a week of surf and body board workshops. The instructors of the Basketball Team “Gran Canaria” will offer them technical and sport training to young people for inculcating some values like respect and disciplines, or the importance of teamwork.
“#UP2U” aspires to be the main thrust that organizes a collaborative network between the Government, academic and sport institutions, foundations and the judiciary itself for creating effective help tools and intervention plans aimed for young people in social exclusion and their family environment. It is a combined project, that involve companies and canary foundations in value education for minors through sport, as well as, an all-round program of workshops and educational scholarships with vocation for employability, and the development of educational and social workshops.
